A solid, affordable Detroit neighborhood, right near all the amenities of Grosse Pointe
East English Village is a small, tightly-knit community on Detroit’s east side. The neighborhood is bound by the I-94 service drive to the north, Cadieux Road to the east, Mack Avenue to the south, and Outer Drive to the west. The neighborhood boasts an interesting mix of affordable homes, built mostly between the 1930s and 1950s. An active neighborhood organization and coordinated investments have kept East English Village one of Detroit’s most solid neighborhoods for many years. Despite being on the city’s far east side, it’s only a 15-minute drive from East English Village to downtown and residents can take advantage of proximity to the retail corridors of the Grosse Pointe communities.
The Nitty Gritty
With a broad range of housing sizes and styles available, prices can vary a bit, but as of late 2017, move-in ready homes could be found for around $60,000-$130,000. In addition to traditional sales, homes have recently been available through auctions by the Detroit Land Bank, if you’re willing to do some home improvement work, these homes can be found for significantly less than move-in ready homes. Houses for rent in the neighborhood range from approximately $700-$1,300 for 900-2,400 sq. ft.
